PM’s housing scheme: Kerala government allocates funds for setting up technical cells

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, which was launched for providing housing for the urban poor, has been extended to all municipalities in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government allocated funds for setting up technical cells as part of implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme (urban). State-level technical cells will be set up at a cost of Rs 25,20,000 and urban-level cells will get around Rs 2 crore. The allocated money includes the Centre’s contribution.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, which was launched for providing housing for the urban poor, has been extended to all municipalities in the state.

PMAY aims to achieve housing for all by 2022. Unlike PMAY (Rural) which has set a limit of 24,600, the PMAY (Urban) has no such limit. Kudumbashree is the nodal agency for the implementation of PMAY and National Urban Livelihood Mission.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has approved the construction of 84,460 more affordable houses for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in five states with a total investment of Rs 3,073 cr for which the Central assistance of Rs 1,256 cr has been approved.

The state will get funds for 5,968 new houses with an investment of Rs 179 cr for which Central assistance of Rs 89 cr has been approved.
