THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A year into office, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left Government has come out with an exhaustive report card of social changes and road map for future development.

The Chief Minister claimed the Left Government has taken the state to an age of good governance and social change from an age of political decay through welfare and development initiatives in the past one year. The state has witnessed a cleansing of political culture, he said.

In an hour-long media briefing on the occasion of the first anniversary of the government, Pinarayi elaborated on the social security schemes and development projects in each sector. While listing out the state’s achievements, the Chief Minister took care to keep away from controversies that overshadowed development.

Pinarayi said the state was going through am age of decayed political culture, corruption and immoral activities during the UDF regime. Even when their immoral side was exposed, they wanted to cling onto power.

In the past one year, the Left government could replace the political decay with a healthy political culture. The government has sent out a strong message that there will be no political god fathers to wrong-doers.
Later responding to queries, Pinarayi said there will be no compromise on corruption. The government will not interfere in any investigations, he said responding to a question on probe into bar bribery charges and solar scam.

Govt not to go after controversies

Pinarayi made clear the government was not interested in going after controversies. “There’s no dearth of controversies here; Controversies will be there. It’ll not affect the government’s functioning. We are interested in  bringing in a social change. Development projects won’t be adversely affected,” said Pinarayi.

Kochi Metro

Considering the significance of Kochi metro rail, it will be more desirable if Prime Minister inaugurates the project. “I’m not interested in getting it done somehow. Going by the importance of the Kochi Metro, it would be more desirable if the Prime Minister inaugurates it,” he said. The state government had sent a letter to the PMO seeking to get a convenient date of the Prime Minister in April itself. The state is in constant touch with the PMO for this. Once there’s a final reply, the government will take appropriate action, said Pinarayi.
