LSD case: Sleuths to probe Goan link

KOCHI: It was the largest-ever haul of LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) in the state by the Narcotic Cell of the Kochi City Police a few weeks ago. Now the case has taken a new turn with the investigation team all set to head for Goa to unearth the source of the drug supply.

On May 5, the police seized 101 LSD stamps from Jo Antony Jose, 25, of Murukummootil, Kavalam in  Alappuzha and Christy Mathew, 24, of Parakkal House, Kalaketty in Kanjirappally.
The duo had been supplying psychedelic drugs to DJ parties in Kochi. During the interrogation, they confessed the LSD was brought from Goa.

“A team has been constituted to find out the source of the LSD which is mainly supplied to DJ parties,” said an investigator. “Based on the information, the team will be heading to Goa. We have also received support from the Goa Police.”

Investigators said the two accused were middlemen. “We can nab more people only if we trace the mafia sourcing the stuff. We got ample information from the duo and we hope the culprits will land in our net,” said a police officer.

Last month, an Excise team in Kochi had seized psychotropic drugs worth Rs 84 lakh and arrested the supplier hailing from Goa. “We are also probing whether both cases are connected as the drugs come from the same place,” the officer said.

This is the first case handled by the Special Anti-Narcotic Squad formed by the City Police last week.
