IDUKKI: For M A Agusthy, a differently-abled man from Kulamavu in Idukki, it was a dream come true.
He had been knocking on the doors of various government offices for the past 15 years for getting the title deed for his 78 cents of land in Idukki village.

On Sunday, his wish was fulfilled in Pattayamela (distribution of title deeds) held at St George parish hall in Kattapana on Sunday. Now, he wants to pledge the land to avail a bank loan for constructing a house to live in.

Augusthy was not the only happy soul. Several others who received the title deeds had been desperately waiting for a legal document for their pieces of land where they had settled decades ago.

Eighty-five-year-old Gouri Raghavan from Vallikudikil, Kokkirakulam in Vazhathope, received the deed for her 30 cents of land after several years of wait.Revenue officers said of the 5,521 deeds ready for distribution, 2,252 title deeds were distributed through counters on Sunday.

‘Pattayamela’ was meant to deceive people: Ramesh

T’Puram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has come out against pattayamela of the state government, by stating that the mela was one that deceived the people. Though it was said unconditional title deeds would be given, all those title deeds given in the event had certain conditions, he alleged.

There were 10 conditions regarding the title deeds that were distributed, he said.Chennithala also alleged all the title-deeds distributed on Sunday were already prepared by the previous UDF Government. And it was for distributing these title-deeds the LDF Government had taken one year, he alleged.
