KOCHI: Reiterating CPI’s stand on the alleged encroachment by Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, party state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Thursday said the LDF will take an appropriate decision according to the law of the land. “Those who flouted law will have to face punishment,” he told reporters at Aluva on the sidelines of the Jana Jagratha Yatra led by him on Thursday. The CPI has already made its stand clear on the issue, he said.

Responding to Chandy’s open remarks on encroachment, Kanam said his statements were out of sheer ignorance. Kanam had earlier said it was the LDF Government, comprising the CPI, that introduced the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land Wetland Act.

“An inquiry report on the encroachment issue is pending before the government. An appropriate action as per the policy of the LDF will be taken,” he said. He said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hadn’t asked E P Jayarajan or A K Saseendran to quit when they were caught in controversies. But it was the parties concerned that took the decision to remove them. Kanam said “We (LDF) are the only political front which fight against BJP-RSS in the state and how can we join hands with the Congress.”
