If the govt doesn’t act, UDF will take up Mukkam issue: Chennithala

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has down heavily on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s stance on the Mukkam stir.

KANNUR : Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has down heavily on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s stance on the Mukkam stir. Does Pinarayi think he is Hitler to crush the agitation against laying of the GAIL pipeline at Mukkam? Ramesh asked.  Chennithala was speaking to reporters during his Padayorukkam campaign here on Friday. Has the CPM which drew its strength through agitations, become allergic and intolerant towards the agitations in Kerala, he asked.

The attempt to crush the stir at Mukkam is lamentable. The police was behind the Mukkam violence. The government should inititate steps to mediate with the agitators to solve the issue. The government should reconsider its stand that discussions are possible only if the agitators withdrew their strike. If the government continues with its hostile attitude towards the agitation, the UDF will be forced to join the agitation. The government’s attempts to spill blood cannot be allowed. The government should hold talks with the agitators. It is unfortunate that a communist Chief Minister is intolerant to people’s issues, Ramesh said.

Self -financing sector
Chennithala said the government has surrendered the self-finance sector to the upper class lobby. Follwing the recent court verdict, nobody from the poor class could think of joining MBBS or BDS in future. The annulment of the section, which upholds the government’s right to hold talks with self-finance management regarding the fixing of fees is shocking. As this is the last straw, the government should immediately appeal against this in court, he demanded. It is suspected that the government has made some adjustments with the self- finance managements, Ramesh said.

Bid to weaken Cong, strengthen BJP
The CPM is trying to weaken the UDF in Kerala by helping the BJP and other fascist forces. While Sasikala, K Surendran and Kummanam spew communal venom through their speeches, no action was taken against them. But, they are quick to take action against Muslim religious leaders, even for minor issues. This will create communal divide in society, Chennithala said.

 Thomas Chandy issue
The continuation of Thomas Chandy in the ministry is an insult to the people of Kerala, and it gives the notion that Pinarayi is protecting the minister. The ignominy faced by Kanam, at the hands of a corrupt minister was most unfortunate. Even CPI’s tall leader Sudhakar Reddy wasn’t spared as Thomas Chandy called him corrupt, Chennithala said.

The Congress and the UDF will fight the Solar Commisssion report legally and politically, he said. The political motive behind the Commission report was evident considering the timing of its announcement. It was designed to humiliate former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, said Chennithala.

RSS, SDPI trying to divide society
The activities of the RSS and the SDPI are not helpful for the smooth functioning of society, he said.  For long, both have been engaged in divisive activities in society. As their connection with the IS operatives have come out, the activities of PFI should be banned, he said.
