KANNUR: Central Bureau of Investigation’s decision to not to go for appeal in the Supreme Court in the SNC Lavalin case is lamentable, said Ramesh Chennithala, leader of the Opposition, at Kannur on Saturday.

While speaking to media, as part of UDF’s ongoing campaign ‘Padayorukkam’, against the anti-people policies of the union and state governments, he alleged that the decision of CBI is the result of a ‘secret pact’ between  BJP and CPM.

“When Pinarayi was exonerated in the case by the High Court, CBI stated that they would go for an appeal in the Supreme Court. Now they are saying that they would not be approaching the Supreme Court. There is a political conspiracy behind this sudden change of attitude,” said Chennithala.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using CBI as a political tool to silence his critics.  The BJP – CPM nexus has been exposed through this move.CPM is staying away from the united opposition against the NDA at the national level can be seen as a reward for this help, he added.

SNC Lavalin case is one of the biggest scams the state has ever witnessed involving an amount of Rs. 374 crores.  Such a huge operation cannot be done by some officials without the help of the political leadership. As it was an international agreement, Pinarayi cannot escape from this by simply putting the blame on the officials for the anomalies. The high court verdict regarding this will not stand in Supreme Court, said Chennithala.

Already two writ appeals submitted by the officials are under the consideration of the court.   However hard the combined forces of Modi and Pinarayi try, the truth will come out in the end, he said.

He reiterated his stand that UDF will support the GAIL pipeline agitation in Mukkam, if the Government wouldn’t hold a discussion with the agitators.  UDF will not allow Mukkam become another Nandigram.  Pinarayi should not behave like Budhadeb Bhattacharya.  The doubts and anxieties of people should be considered while holding discussions.

LDF should learn lessons from UDF’s implementation of Metro Rail Project in Kochi without any opposition from the people. The response ‘Padayorukkam’ has been receiving in Kannur is fabulous, Chennithala said.
