Chennithala: UDF will look for legality in approaching court

Coming down heavily on the LDF Government for it soft stand in the land encroachment allegations against Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala

KOZHIKODE: Coming down heavily on the LDF Government for it soft stand in the land encroachment allegations against Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the UDF will look for legality in approaching the court against Chandy against whom the government has failed to initiate action.

“The stand taken by the LDF Government in the issue has exposed the political corruption of the government,” he told the media. “Those who demanded the resignation of K M Mani and K Babu from the UDF ministry after the Vigilance court ordered a quick verification probe in the bar bribery case have now changed their stand in the Chandy issue. The CPM even ousted E P Jayarajan, who dedicated his life for the party, from the Minister post when there was a complaint of nepotism against him. But in the case of Chandy, they are not showing any interest to seek his resignation.”

“The government has buried corruption cases and sterilised the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau. As the appointment of the Vigilance director has been put on hold, the Opposition will approach the court seeking direction for new appointment,” he said.

On the GAIL pipeline agitation in Mukkom, Chennithala demanded the government withdraw cases registered against the agitators. “The UDF is not interested in politicising the agitation as it is a people’s protest,” said the leader, adding the project was conceived by the former UPA Government. “The work began when Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister. We are not political fools to say the project is a wrong one,” he said.
