KANNUR: The sound clip of Hafsiya, wife of Shajil, who was killed in Syria, while fighting for the IS, which tells about the death of her husband, corroborates the police stand that those who had gone from Kannur to Syria, had joined IS and are fighting a ‘holy war’ there. While speaking to reporters on Saturday, Kannur DySP P P Sadanandan said the police have got some sound clips to prove the recruitment to IS was real and more details about them will be revealed in the coming days as the interrogation of the five arrested in Kannur, two weeks ago, is underway.

According to Sadanandan, the voice of Hafsiya was frantic, and she was informing a relative about the death of her husband. He was shot and killed, she said. And there were many Malayali women here, who had lost their husbands in the battle, she said in a trembled voice disrupted by sobs, said Sadanandan.Another voice clip was from Manaf, a friend of Shajil, who was also fighting in Syria for the IS. In this sound clip, he was telling another friend of Shajil in Kannur, that he is ready to pay the money Shajil owed.

Though Manaf had asked for the account number of the friend in the Gulf, his friend declined that offer. Another sound clip police have got is of Khayyum of Cheruvathalamotta. In it, he says that he is in the war zone and  may be killed any time. Police have also got evidences to prove that Raashid and Midhilaj, who were arrested two weeks ago, had gone to Syria, said Sadanandan.

Manaf Rahman, who was detained at the Mangaluru Airport, was trying to go to Syria with his family. He was also arrested along with Midhilaj and Raashid two weeks ago. From the interrogation, it was revealed that flight tickets were arranged by two travel agencies of Thalasserry.
