Three foresters injured in poachers’ attack

 Three forest officers sustained injuries as four persons attacked them with iron rods then they arrived at Kakkayam to search a house based on a tip-off the family members were selling bison meat.

KOZHIKODE: Three forest officers sustained injuries as four persons attacked them with iron rods then they arrived at Kakkayam to search a house based on a tip-off the family members were selling bison meat.  On information, Koorachund police rushed to the spot and shifted the officers to the hospital. According to the police, a three-member team from the Forest Department, including section officer Pramod Kumar, beat officer Krishnan and driver Radhakrishnan reached Kakkayam at 4.30 pm on Tuesday and they tried to search the premises of Baby, 52, of Maritholi house. 

Meanwhile, Baby, his wife Leela, son Denil, 20 and another youth attacked them with iron rods. The officers sustained injuries on their head and hands. The family members fled the spot after attacking the officers. The forest team seized 35 kg of bison meat from baby’s car parked on the premises. The officers also seized several antlers from the house.  

Based on a complaint lodged by the forest officers, the police registered a case against the four persons, who went absconding after the attack, for attacking the forest officers. Meanwhile, The forest officers also registered a case against the accused for hunting wild animals and keeping the meat illegally. The police have intensified the search for the absconding persons.
