Volleyball coach Achutha Kurup passes away

 Former Indian volleyball player and national team coach Achutha Kurup passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday. He was 75.  

KOZHIKODE: Former Indian volleyball player and national team coach Achutha Kurup passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday. He was 75.  A native of Vadakara, Achutha Kurup had trained the Indian team which won the bronze medal in the 1986 Asian Games. After retirement, he concentrated on coaching budding volleyball players. 

He had served as trainer at the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The Indian team trained by Kurup had won silver in the International Friendship Volleyball Champioship held in Japan in 1989. He is survived by wife Kusum, son Ananda Kurup and daughter Anuradha. His children are also noted volleyball players.
