Kerala Cricket Association members foil T C Mathew’s bid to attend meeting

Mathew, who is facing corruption charges and stands banned from attending KCA meetings or entering its offices, had arrived to participate in a KCA committee meeting.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) headquarters here on Sunday witnessed high drama  after BCCI vice president T C Mathew tried to put in an appearance at the association’s  meeting which commenced shortly after 10 am.

Mathew, who is facing corruption charges and stands banned from attending KCA meetings or entering its offices, had arrived to participate in a KCA committee meeting. However, he was forced to leave following protests from the other members.

Also on Sunday, the KCA set up a four-member panel to investigate the corruption charges against Mathew. The panel headed by KCA treasurer Sreejith Nair, which has K M Abdurahman, Shajan Varghese and Sanal Chandran as its other  members, will submit its report within three months. The meeting also suspended Mathew from the post of Idukki district cricket association(DCA) secretary.

Mathew told Express he would rather not comment on the issue. He also disclosed he did not attend the meeting. ‘’I left after reaching an agreement with the other members,’’ he said.  He is facing charges of financial irregularities during his long stint as KCA secretary and president. Earlier, he had been kept out of the meeting convened during the run-up to the India-New Zealand T-20 match at the Sports Hub, Kariyavattom.
