THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Parassala MLA C K Hareendran went on the defensive on Sunday, after a video clip of him showering abuse on the woman Deputy Collector in full public glare went viral on the social media.

The incident occurred on Saturday during the road blockade organised by the local residents with the bodies of the two men who died in the Kunnathukal quarry mishap.

The video clip shows Hareendran shouting at Deputy Collector S J Vijaya as hundreds of people look on.
Hareendran said the Deputy Collector failed to report the decisions regarding the compensation taken at the meeting convened by the District Collector. But the video tells a different story.

The Deputy Collector is seen announcing a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 10,000 to the injured quarry workers. According to Hareendran, no decision was finalised regarding the compensation as he had demanded the family of the deceased be paid Rs 25 lakh each.

“A meeting is being called on Monday to discuss this matter. It is true I was angered by the Deputy Collector’s announcement. The crowd also was provoked, and I, in fact, saved her by getting her out of the place in a police vehicle,” he said.
