Three-year-old assaulted, burnt with hot stove in Kerala

When the mother of the child was not at home, her friend's husband assaulted the child and allegedly burnt her with a hot stove yesterday.

KOLLAM: The police here have taken a 26-year-old man into custody for allegedly torturing a girl aged three and a half years at Kundara. The girl and her mother have moved to the Mahila Mandiram (women's home) at Kollam.

Police said the girl and her mother used to live with Ashique and his family at Kundara. As per local accounts, whenever the woman was out at work, Ashique used to torture the girl.

An officer in the Kundara police station said, “Neighbours confirmed that they heard the girl crying on many occasions. On Monday evening after hearing the girl’s cry for help they intervened and informed us. When we arrived we found the girl with burn injuries.”

According to the Kundara sub-inspector A Noufal, the girl will be subjected to a detailed medical examination. Further charges if needed would be slapped against the accused.
