THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two teenagers went missing while bathing at the Aruvippuram ghat of the Karamana river at Peyad on Saturday evening.The boys, identified as Sidharth, 17, of Sreevaraham, and Vivek, 17, of Mangattukadavu, were reported to be plus-II students of St Thomas School and Chinmaya School, respectively. According to local residents, the 13-member group of students came to the ghat at about 3.30 pm, after attending the birthday party of a friend at his house at Kundmankadavu.
About five of them ventured into the river while others waited on the bank.
“Sidharth is reported to have slipped into a deep spot and Vivek, while attempting to rescue him, too was caught in the strong current,” said Peyad councillor Shailaja C who was part of the search operations.
Fire and Rescue Services and the Vilappilsala police conducted the search operations for the missing persons. They could not be traced till late in the night. It would resume on Sunday early morning.
