Police reforms hailed

Police station with Circle Inspector as Station House Officer would be a better police station, say experts who had seen it function at the highest level in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A police station with Circle Inspector as Station House Officer would be a better police station, say experts who had seen it function at the highest level in the state. Former Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the efficiency of policing would improve when a Circle Inspector who has put in at least 10 years of experience would become the Station House Officer. “The previous UDF Government has reduced the training periods of Sub Inspectors from 10 months to 4.6 months. The LDF government has now revoked it.” he said.

Former Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose said the decision would help better management of station and improve investigation standards.   “A single police station gets 2,000 to 3,000 cases in a month. A Circle Inspector can manage station, consisting of a group of sub-inspectors, better.” said Jacob Punnoose.
