KALPETTA: Launching a scathing attack on the BJP and the Congress, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Saturday,  the anti-farmer policies pursued by both the parties have completely devastated the lives of farmers in the country. “The policies of the Narendra Modi Government is are worse than the one followed by the previous Congress regime. The successive governments have been helping only the corporates,” he said while addressing a seminar on “Agriculture Crisis in India” at Nadavayyal in the district.

“Modi durring his election campaign had promised to work for the welfare of farmers. But after assuming power, he has been acting as per the dictates of the corporates, surrendering the agriculture sector to them. The government is trying to destroy the farmers to help corporate farming,” he said.

Showering praise on the Kudumbashree model of development and Kerala’s cooperative movement, Yechury said there is a need to strengthen the cooperative sector to fight the capital onslaught unleashed by the corporates.  “Only the Kudumbashree and cooperative sector can help us bail out the agriculture sector from the present crisis,” said Yechury.
