CB to meet TN police for updates on probe

The Crime Branch special investigation team(SIT) probing the multi-crore Nirmal Krishna Chit Fund fraud will convene a meeting with Tamil Nadu police shortly for updates on the ongoing investigation.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Crime Branch special investigation team(SIT) probing the multi-crore Nirmal Krishna Chit Fund fraud will convene a meeting with Tamil Nadu police shortly for updates on the ongoing investigation.

The Crime Branch sleuths are also expected to hand over details of investors duped by the firm to the Tamil Nadu police at the meeting. They said all possible assistance is being extended to track down the accused including Nirmalan Krishnan Nair, owner of the chit fund,  who had gone underground as per a well-devised plan.

“Nirmalan’s  entire family went into  hiding after hatching a conspiracy rather than fleeing ‘all of a sudden’. He might have decided to closed down the firm after playing it safe. It is learnt that the accused had switched off their phones much earlier to confuse the police,” an officer said.
In a related development, the Thiruvananthapuram sub-court on Monday will consider Nirmalan’s insolvency petition. Sources said Nirmalan may even approach the Kerala High court seeking protection for his firms and properties in the state.

Though the Kerala police had formed an SIT, the case is being probed by the  police from the neighbouring state since the crime had occured on TN territory.Earlier, the investors had expressed their dissatisfaction with the police investigation.
