KOCHI: A 28-year-old woman, who was allegedly detained at a yoga centre at Udayamperoor, on Monday submitted before the Kerala High Court that 65 inmates were illegally detained there. She also sought a detailed investigation into the “criminal activities of the trust and the illegal detention and physical torture of inmates at the centre”. In an affidavit, Dr Swetha Haridasan, who claimed to have married Thrissur native Rinto Isaac who belongs to another religion, said she was admitted to the centre by her father and relatives. She was tortured by Hindu fundamentalists at the counselling centre to force her to sever her marital ties with Rinto, the affidavit said.
“The guruji at the centre threatened me saying if I go with Rinto, they will kill him. I was not allowed to make contact with anyone outside. Around 65 such inmates are incarcerated there,” she said in the affidavit. According to her, she is a doctor and wants to live as per her wish.
She filed the affidavit in a habeas corpus petition filed by Rinto. The court asked the petitioner to file a plea seeking to implead the trust in the case and posted the case to Tuesday.
