Case registered on illegal detention plaint

The Udayamperoor police on Monday registered a case in connection with the alleged illegal detention of a woman at a yoga centre near Kandanad in Tripunithura.

KOCHI: The Udayamperoor police on Monday registered a case in connection with the alleged illegal detention of a woman at a yoga centre near Kandanad in Tripunithura. The police said they have collected statements of the inmates and staff at the centre and an inquiry is under way. According to the police, the woman, a Kannur native, had lodged a complaint against the Sivasakthi Yoga Centre near Kandanad for illegally detaining her for around 22 days. 


The woman, who married a youth from another religion, was admitted to the yoga centre by her relatives with the intention to prevent her from converting to her husband’s religion. As per the complaint, a person named Sreejesh who introduced himself as a High Court advocate; Manoj, who claims to be Guruji, and counsellors Smitha, Sujith and Lekshmi kept on pestering her with evil consequences of marrying a Christian and assaulted her when she objected to it.
