Collector to examine minister’s documents

District Collector T V Anupama will examine the documents of Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, on allegations of land encroachment and paddy field filling. 

ALAPPUZHA: District Collector T V Anupama will examine the documents of Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, on allegations of land encroachment and paddy field filling. The hearing will be held at the Collectorate on Wednesday. The Collector issued notice to John Joseph, managing director of Water World Tourism Company, who is also a relative of Thomas Chandy. 

The resort and other properties are under the ownership of Jose Mathew, a director of the company. The Collector has directed various department heads to be present on the hearing for cross checking the documents, which will be presented by the officers of the company. The Revenue Divisional Officer, Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department  and tahsildar of Land Revenue Department  will be present for the hearing on Wednesday as per the directive of the collector.

As the first phase of the hearing, the collector has invited documents of Lake Palace Resort. The violations related to the construction of the resort, road to the resort, land filling and reduction of building tax by the municipality will be examined under the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act . In the next phase, documents related to the filling of paddy land at Marthandam Kayal and Mathoor Devaswom land encroachment allegations will be examined.
