KANNUR: Indicating the return of political violence after a lull, two libraries owned by the CPM were ransacked and set on fire at Kallerikkara, near Mattannur and Vilaman near Udayagiri in the early hours of Monday. Meanwhile the booth committee office of the BJP was set on fire at Mattini near Iritty, while a bomb was hurled at a shop owned by a BJP activist at Kunnoth.

The attacks have caused concern as a small provocation can trigger unrest in the politically sensitive district. A CPM controlled library was attacked and ransacked at Kallerikkara, near Mattannur in the early hours of Monday, allegedly by the RSS activists. As a bomb exploded in front of the library, people rushed to the spot only to see the library ransacked.
