THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after the CCTV visuals of a person who was brutally assaulted by two men at Chirayinkeezhu took the social media by storm, the key accused Ananthu, 25, a native of Mudapuram was arrested by Chirayinkeezhu police. One more accused, identified as Sreekuttan, is still at large. The arrest was led by Attingal CI M Anilkumar based on the suo motu case registered after the CCTV visuals of the incident went viral on social media on Sunday.
According to police, efforts were on to nab Sreekuttan. The police said Ananthu who was earlier employed as a private bus driver, is a habitual offender who has been involved in similar assault cases. The incident took place on September 13 around 5 pm when the motorcycle-borne victim, Sudheer, questioned the accused for rash driving at Mudapuram junction.
Soon, the accused came out of the vehicle and assaulted Sudheer. The locals, including the person who was riding pillion with Sudheer, remained mute spectators.
Though the issue settled soon after the incident, the police had to register a case as the CCTV visuals which were aired on mainstream media.Ananthu was later produced before the magistrate which remanded him in judicial custody, police said.
