Kerala seeks housing project in gulf city

The Kerala Government has sought the support of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the visiting Sharjah ruler, for establishing a housing project for Keralites in the Gulf city.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government has sought the support of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the visiting Sharjah ruler, for establishing a housing project for Keralites in the Gulf city. The 10-apartment tower project christened Sharjah Family City is one of the seven areas, including IT, ayurveda and tourism, where Kerala has suggested collaboration.


Presenting its proposals at a meeting between the Sharjah delegation and the Kerala Cabinet members at the Raj Bhavan, the state government said 10 acre would be required for establishing the housing project, which would be a joint venture.The residential area will have a modern healthcare facility. The state government, among other things, also sought Al Qasimi’s help for establishing a modern medical centre next to the soon-to-be-opened Kannur international airport.

The state government has proposed an educational enterprise in Sharjah which involves the development of centres of excellence, including public schools, engineering and medical colleges and skill development centres.
Culture
A cultural centre and museum in Sharjah showcasing the heritage and traditions of Kerala. Ten acres would be needed for the project.
Healthcare, education
Kerala has modern healthcare and medical education facilities. In addition to this, there are specialists and paramedical staff. Once the Kannur airport is completed by 2018 middle, a medical centre of international standards can be opened with investments from entrepreneurs in Sharjah.

Information technology
The state’s expertise in the IT field will help collaboration between the two regions. The Start Up Mission can assist Sharjah in developing entrepreneurship skills among its citizens. Kerala can host the back-office operations of the Sharjah Government and major companies there.

Ayurveda and medical tourism
Special tourism packages for Sharjah citizens visiting Kerala. The proposed cultural centre will serve as an ayurveda hub in this regard.

Infrastructure
Kerala expects the cooperation of Sharjah in the infrastructure development planned by state. Kerala envisages the spending of I50,000 crore in the sector in the next four years.
