KOCHI: A section of theatre directors has come out against actor KPAC Lalitha, who is also the chairperson of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi (KSNA), for visiting actor Dileep, an accused in the actor assault case, in the Aluva jail.In a joint statement, the 14 directors termed Lalitha’s jail visit as an outrageous and senseless act which condoned the horrendous act of violence perpetrated on a young woman.

The release was brought out by theatre directors Abhilash Pillai, Chandradasan, Ramesh Varma, Narippata Raju, Deepan Sivaraman, Jose Koshi, Jino Jose, Samkutti Pattomkari, Sam George, Rathnakaran, Gopan Chidambaram, Aliyar Ali, K V Ganesh Kumar and Martin John Challissery. According to the statement, the chairperson of the state’s topmost cultural outfit has chosen to traverse a path diametrically opposite to all artistic concerns and through this, she has insulted the entire fraternity of performing artists.

“We strongly condemn such insensitive action by a person holding a respectful post in an institution funded by tax payers’ money,” said the release. The directors demanded Lalitha to quit the post immediately. They also requested the state government to remove her from the post if she refuses to resign.”We urge the Kerala Government to revisit its policy of filling up such important positions in cultural institutions with individuals who have very little or no political and social understanding of the consequences of their actions they do while in the office,” they said.Despite several attempts, KPAC Lalitha was not available for comments.
