THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a relief to former Sports and Industries Minister E P Jayarajan, the Vigilance has given a clean chit to him in the nepotism case. On Monday, the investigating officer, Vigilance SP K Jayakumar submitted a report to Vigilance Director Loknath Behera after conducting a preliminary inquiry.  In the report, the Vigilance said the case against him would not stand in the court as Jayarajan had no financial gains in appointing his relatives in various public sector units in the state. The report  said it was advisable to close the case. The report will be submitted to the Special Vigilance Court here by the Vigilance Director.

The Vigilance took a decision to close the case following the advice of legal advisor C C Augustine. He had informed the investigation team that the probe should be stopped as there is no evidence against Jayarajan. The Vigilance had earlier informed the High Court that the case would not stand legal scrutiny.
Earlier this year, the Vigilance had registered an FIR against Jayarajan. Apart from him, P K Sudheer, Jayarajan’s nephew and son of Kannur MP P K Sreemathi, was named the second accused in the case.
