Heartless act by bus crew claims commuter’s life

A 40-Year-old man lost his life as a result of the alleged insensitivity displayed the crew of a private bus here who refused to provide timely medical help to the deceased.

KOCHI: A 40-Year-old man lost his life as a result of the alleged insensitivity displayed the crew of a private bus here who refused to provide timely medical help to the deceased after he complained of unease. The incident happened around 12.35 pm on Saturday on a private bus plying on the Thevara- Aluva route. The victim Lakshman hailing from Wayanad had boarded the bus from Shenoy’s Junction. Soon, he began showing signs of discomfort and pleaded with the crew for help. However, Lakshman’s repeated pleas went unheeded and it was only after his condition worsened the bus crew stopped the vehicle and left him with a traffic warden.

“It is not yet known if he was alive at the time. The body kept at the Kalamassery hospital was handed over to his relatives. We have registered a case of unnatural death and will be looking into the case further. The bus is in Aluva and the driver and conductor of the bus will be questioned. A report will be handed over to the Motor Vehicles Department. If the bus crew is found guilty we will frame the charges,” said the Elamakkara police. Lakshman, who had been employed with the Ernakulam branch of Polakkulam group for the past three years, is survived by wife Kunjila and children Abhiram and Amith.
