Kerala: Four drown in abandoned quarry

THRISSUR: Four persons, including a mother and daughter, drowned in a quarry pond at Ajoorkunnu near Kunnamkulam here. Pakkaveettil Seetha, 45, her daughter Prathika, 13, their neighbour Sana, 11, daughter of Raimarakkar Veettil Bushara, and Aashim, 7, a relative of Bushara are the victims. Aashim is the son of Anees from Chelukara. He was on a visit to Ajoorkunnu when the mishap occurred.

On Vishu evening, the group had gone for bathing in an abandoned quarry nearby. When they didn't return even after a long time, the neighbours launched a search. On reaching the pond, the neighbours spotted the dresses and footwear of the four. However, the four were missing following which the police and the Fire and Rescue personnel were alerted.

After hours of search, the bodies were recovered from the pond. Prathika was a Class VIII student of St George School and Sana a Class VI student of Kunnamkulam Girls School. The bodies were taken to the Kunnamkulam Government Hospital and handed over to the family members after post-mortem examination.
