THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala pumped ridicule at the LDF government for organising a formal function on Tuesday to disburse monthly pension due for KSRTC retired employees since six months and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating it.

The government defaulted the pension payment of the KSRTC retired staff pushing thousands of them into an indefinite satyagraha all over the state and a few even committed suicide. And now a function has been organised to disburse the due amount. It is too much,” he said. “The Chief  Minister should have inaugurated the function after presenting a condolence message for those KSRTC pensioners who had ended their lives recently,” Ramesh felt.

He said the Left government alone was responsible for the non-disbursal of the pension in the KSRTC. “The government was forced to disburse the arrears on the face of mounting protests and suicides of pensioners. What the Chief Minister had inaugurated was the finale of a long drawn misery. It was ridiculous,” he said.

Ramesh had warned that the pension payments using the loan advanced from the primary cooperative banks, after forming a consortium under the district banks, would only spell doom for  the already struggling cooperative sector of the state. But Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Cooperation Minister Kadakampally Surendran has billed such apprehensions as unfounded, while piloting ways to put the ailing KSRTC for a safe drive and address the concerns of thousands of  staff - working and retired.
