Ruling party at fault for violence in Kerala's Kannur, say writers

Earlier, writers, including K Satchidanandan and Paul Zachariah, had also condemned the violence in Kannur, and  asked the people of the district to shun violence immediately.

KOCHI: Some of Kerala’s well-known writers and intellectuals have come out against the growing violence among the political parties in the state, saying this trend, if it continues, will bring a complete halt to the democratic system.

“Kerala’s political landscape is more violent than ever before, and we are seeing the fast fascistisation of political parties in the state,” a joint statement issued by writers KG Sankara Pillai, Anand, Sara Joseph, B R P Bhaskar, C R Parameswaran and K J Johny, said on Wednesday. Coming in the wake of the murder of Youth Congress leader Shuhaib, the statement said people are being “brainwashed” at a young age and trained to kill opponents. “Kannur has become the capital of terror. To end the differences of opinion, parties are resorting to the easy route of eliminating those who have the differences,” the statement said, adding all political parties, including the ruling CPM, are culprits in making Kannur a land of political violence and terror.

Earlier, writers, including K Satchidanandan and Paul Zachariah, had also condemned the violence in Kannur, and  asked the people of the district to shun violence immediately.“Students who go to educational institutions are taught to hurl bombs and cut human beings into pieces. The families do not know that the monthly payment given to their wards by political parties are payments for killing people,” the statement said.
