THRISSUR: While there are strong indications from the CPM to take K M Mani into their fold, CPI leader Kanam Rajendran categorically said the Left Front has no need for scoring a self-goal when they have the support of the people.Speaking at the seminar ‘Keralam Innalaey, Innu, Naalaey’ at the meet, which was attended by Mani, Kanam said no one should think LDF can be strengthened through shortcuts.

“LDF came to power because of their fight against corruption,” he said. While pointing to a study, he said a cross-section of people was against corruption and UDF was found as a complete baggage of corruption. Kanam said they are in modern times when people are closely watching and analysing them and they expect a transparent democracy.  “People should not be made to believe the Left Front has some weakness. I have to say there is no need to hit a self goal, when people still believe in us and support the LDF,” he said.

Kanam said there is no need for coming to a certain decision to appease a religious minority or for some other reason. The religious minority is well aware there is none other than LDF to protect them. He said this was why LDF garnered an increased vote share than other parties in the Malappuram and Vengara bypolls. For a small political gain, discussing a directly opposite political policy is not good for the front, he said.

Yechury line on alliance with Congress draws flak
Thrissur:
The political tactical line suggesting alliance or understanding with the Congress drew flak from delegates at the meet. It was in the presence of general secretary Sitaram Yechury the state unit rejected his stance on the issue. The delegates from all districts pointed out that the party should not look into shortcuts to power through such alliances. With this, the state CPM has once again cemented its position in the matter.
