KANNUR: In the identification parade at the Kannur special sub-jail on Friday, witnesses to the Shuhaib murder case identified accused Akash and Rijin Raj. The team under Judicial First Class Magistrate V A Antony conducted the parade by bringing up the witnesses to the spot. Noushad and Riyas, who were injured during the attack in which Shuhaib was killed, were present at the parade as witnesses along with another witness whose identity was not revealed by police owing to security reasons. Considering the security of the witnesses, the police took the vehicle into the sub-jail compound before helping them out of the vehicle. Though Noushad had expressed doubts on the role of Akash in the murder, on Friday he identified him.
With the witnesses identifying the accused, the Congress leadership in the district has to take a decision regarding the ongoing hunger strike of K Sudhakaran that began five days ago. But, Sudhakaran has said the hunger strike will continue till the government decides to hand over the investigation to the CBI.
As the witnesses have identified the accused, police have got a breather for the time being. The Congress had earlier accused the two people arrested by the police were dummies provided by the CPM. Though the police are not able to move further after the arrest of two persons with the other two who are directly involved in the act are still out of the police net, the result in the identification parade has given them some sort of relief.
Sudhakaran’s hunger stir continues
Kannur: Despite media focus shifting to the death of a tribal youth in Attappadi and the CPM state meet in Thrissur, the Congress party is trying hard to to keep the agitation going by bringing people at the venue where senior leader K Sudhakaran is undertaking hunger stir. Determined not to let the opportunity slip away, Congress leaders are putting all efforts to keep the agitation strong. For the past three days, they had been conducting Shuhaib commemoration meets in the district. Efforts were also made to highlight the hunger strike of Sudhakaran. On Saturday, Congress mandalam committees will take out torch rallies at various centres, said DCC president Satheeshan Pacheni.
