KOZHIKODE: At a time when honour killings are being reported even from Kerala - a state that was fairly immune from the social evil - a voluntary group has come forward to fight it tooth and nail.
Named Love Commandos, the organisation plans to conduct an event in Kozhikode on July 22 to make people aware of basic human rights and legal options available for inter-faith couples who choose to live together.

The New Delhi-based group has facilitated 52,000 love marriages and has around 20 lakh volunteers across the country providing assistance to lovers who are facing opposition from society. The event in Kozhikode will be held at Kerala Government Polytechnic Hall, West Hill.

Besides creating awareness on human rights and individual freedom, experts will lead workshops on facilities that can be availed from a police station, steps to approach a court for any denial of rights and also dispel various myths about sexuality that exists in society. There will be provisions to clarify doubts. The event will provide consultation for problems related to love, shelter and employment. Sessions with legal stalwarts and counselling by experts will be provided. Love Commandos chairman Sanjoy Sachdev will lead the sessions.

“We plan to have 1 lakh trained Love Commandos in Kerala with at least 10 members from each panchayat ward in the state,” said Anil Jose, chief coordinator (Kerala), Love Commandos.
According to the organisers, those who are suffering from social problems and need support can call either 81398 80600 or 98462 51897 or WhatsApp at 94474 98430 to participate in the programme.
