Muhammed arrest: Call records come to police aid

A detailed interrogation of the arrested was conducted at the Ernakulam Central Police station.

KOCHI: “An investigation based on mobile phone call records led to his arrest. Muhammed was attempting to escape to a safer place and for this he contacted one of his friends. Tracking this we took him into custody from near Mangaluru,” said an investigation team member.

The police said the accused confessed they had planned to trigger a clash between SFI workers and called the gang members from outside with lethal weapons to the college. Muhammed was present during the altercation over graffiti welcoming freshers which occurred around 7.30 pm on June 30. He left the campus by 9 pm, came back with the assailants and unleashed attack on SFI workers who were engaged in graffiti work.

A detailed interrogation of the arrested was conducted at the Ernakulam Central Police station. Muhammed, son of PFI sympathiser Ibrahim Moulavi, is also the CFI Alappuzha district president.
So far, the police have arrested 11 persons in connection with the Abhimanyu murder. Of this, five accused, including Muhammed were directly involved in the hatching up the conspiracy of the crime and operation.

The CFI workers had decided to unleash attack on the SFI workers so as to give a jolt to their dominance in the college. Muhammed admitted the gang went to the hostel run by the CFI workers near Ernakulam North Railway Station after committing the murder.
