THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the Kerala Police are under fire from various corners over major lapses, CPM veteran and former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has come out raising concerns over back-to-back incidents of the law makers turning law violators.

The statement comes in the backdrop of another incident of police brutality reported from Aluva in Ernakulam.

Stringent action should be taken to send out the message that such erring officials will not be welcome in the police force, urged the veteran leader who is also the Chairman of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission.

In a statement issued here, VS said, the government, if needed, should consider framing legislation to ensure strict action against the errant police officials.

"Only when the media highlights or the public protests, do such incidents come to the notice of top police officials. Those who have a mandate to protect the life and property of the public, themselves posing a threat to public life, cannot be accepted. There should be stringent actions against these officials. If
needed, the government should consider bringing out legislation in this regard," Achuthanandan said.
