Edathala issue: NIA to check violation of bail by the accused persons

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had alleged that extremist elements, including people involved in NIA cases who are out on bail, were behind the Edathala police station protest last day.

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will check with the Kerala Police whether any persons arraigned in the cases probed by the agency were involved in the violence during the Edathala police station march the other day. 

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had alleged that extremist elements, including people involved in NIA cases who are out on bail, were behind the Edathala police station protest last day.  “We will check whether there has been any violation of the bail conditions set by the court which have to be strictly followed by the accused while out on the bail,” an NIA officer said.

In case of violation of bail condition, the NIA can approach the court for cancelling the bail. However, no information has been provided by the state police to the national agency regarding the involvement of those accused in the NIA cases in the protest march.Two persons involved in the Kalamassery bus burning case are residents of Edathala and currently out on bail. While several persons involved in the Muvattupuzha palm chopping case are also residents of Aluva and nearby areas.
