TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday denied that the Governor had sought any ‘explanation’ from the state government in connection with the murders in Kannur and Mahe in early May. The Chief Minister’s written reply came to a question by MLAs K Muraleedharan, Eldos Kunnappally, I C Balakrishnan and Sunny Joseph on whether the Governor had expressed concern over the RSS-CPM violence in Kannur and Mahe and whether he had sought an explanation. In reality, Governor P Sathasivam had sought an ‘action-taken’ report from the government which did not find a mention in Vijayan’s reply.
In early May, CPM member Kannipoyil Babu was killed allegedly by the RSS workers in Mahe. Soon afterwards, BJP worker Shamej was attacked in retaliation. He died in hospital. To another question on the political violence in Kannur, Vijayan gave a written reply that such incidents have not created fear and insecurity in the state as law and order situation was under control. To another question on custodial deaths and action taken against the officers responsible for such incidents, he replied that the information was being compiled.
