THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC office-bearers meet held at party state headquarters turned stormy with leaders engaged in heated arguments over the Rajya Sabha seat allocation to Kerala Congress (M).At the meeting, chaired by KPCC president M M Hassan, leaders after leaders came out against the unilateral decision by the trio of Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and M M Hassan on the RS seat.
Senior leader and party spokesman Rajmohan Unnithan, in a sarcastic tone, told the trio not to hurt themselves by taking the entire weight of the party on their shoulders, sources said.
Coming down heavily on the leadership, former KPCC president K Muraleedharan said, “I am receiving umpteen number of calls that are nothing short of abuses. I am facing the wrath of the Congress workers in my constituency following this decision.”
Veteran leader Aryadan Mohammed said engaging P K Kunhalikutty and thereby Muslim League to broker a deal with K M Mani has resulted in Hindu vote bank shifting to the BJP.
“Mani is no stranger to Congress leaders and these leaders could have approached Mani directly and settled the deal. Why engage Kunhalikutty?” he asked. Aryadan also gave detailed report on the growth of Muslim League in the state at the expense of the Congress.
Senior leader and former KPCC president V M Sudheeran also lashed out at the leadership. Though ‘A’ group leaders Jaison Joseph and Nattakam Suresh tried to disrupt the speech, their attempts were shot down by KPCC leaders Manacad Suresh, Johnson Abraham and T N Prathapan, who defended Sudheeran.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Hassan said the party had to take a decision to allocate RS seat to KC (M) to strengthen the UDF and it’s a political decision. He said the party will reprimand leaders who came out in the open against the party decisions even after the party has issued clarifications. To a question on whether group rivalry is continuing in the party, Hassan said “There is group, but not extreme group war”.
‘Rahul should continue his fight’
T’Puram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has said Rahul Gandhi should continue his fight against communal forces and Kerala society is with him. He was responding to the Bhiwandi court charging Rahul Gandhi on a complaint filed by the RSS against his statement Mahatma Gandhi was killed by the RSS. Everyone knows who is behind murdering Mahatma Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi cannot be silenced by a court case, he said in a press release.
