CBSE continues crackdown on errant schools

As part of its ongoing crackdown against schools in the state violating norms, CBSE conducted a surprise check at an affiliated school in Ernakulam district on Monday.

KOZHIKODE: As part of its ongoing crackdown against schools in the state violating norms, CBSE conducted a surprise check at an affiliated school in Ernakulam district on Monday.During the check, it was found that the school had enrolled 99 students in Class X from other unaffiliated schools nearby.
CBSE authorities also found that Luke Memorial Public School at Iringole in Ernakulam did not have a proper playground or sufficient land in the school campus.

It was also detected that some under-construction area in the school was highly unsafe for children. Since the school violated the provisions of affiliation bylaws of the Board, its manager was asked to explain the reasons for the violation within 10 days, CBSE regional officer Tarun Kumar said. If the explanation is found unsatisfactory, action to disaffiliate the school would be taken and the penalty imposed on the institution, the officer added.

Earlier this month, CBSE had slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh - the highest ever in the country - on a school for poor infrastructure, unsafe classrooms and a host of other unfair practices.Another school was fined `50,000 for charging money for issuance of transfer certificate and for collecting development fee from the students.
