THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Jes Maria Benny of Angamaly, Ernakulam, boasting a national rank of 56, emerged as the Kerala topper in the NEET entrance examination for MBBS and BDS courses, said Health Minister K K Shylaja, who announced the state’s top 10 positions on Wednesday after compiling the list.
The results of the NEET exam, held on May 6 across 2,255 centres in the country’s 136 cities, was announced June 5.

Chandana R S of Thonnakkal and Adarsh Gopan of Malayadi (both Thiruvananthapuram district) secured second position in the SC and ST category respectively.Of the 48,937 candidates in the rank list, 36,398 are female and 12,539 male.

Kozhikode district contributed the most number of candidates to the list, with 17 of them figuring in top 100. Malappuram and Kottayam had 15 and 13 students respectively.Shylaja said the allotment of MBBS and BDS seats would be complete by August 12.

Regarding the admission process and fee, she said, “The government has finalised the fee for the medical-allied courses in the state. There won’t be any disparity. It’s the managements of private colleges who legally challenge the government’s decisions every year. This creates delay in admission process,” said Shylaja.

The CBSE conducts the NEET exam across India for admission to MBBS and BDS courses run with the approval of the Medical Council of India or the Dental Council of India, except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament such as AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry.

Nirmal J of Pathanamthitta topped the state in the pharmacy category with a rank of 320 out of 480. In the SC category, Sandra of Kottayam secured first with a rank of 547. In the ST category, Sruthi K of Kasargod came on top with the rank of 6,216.

More the merrier is Jes’ success mantra

Kozhikode: Jes Maria Benny, who bagged the first rank in the Kerala Medical and Engineering Entrance 2018, is literally over the moon. An alumna of St Antony’s School, Kanjirapally, solving previous years’ question papers is Jes’ mantra for success. “Work out as many question papers as possible. The more question papers you solve, the more you stand a chance of cracking competitive examinations. You get a hang of the style and pattern of questions asked. Then there is the crucial issue of time management. You need to be quick and precise. Spending a lot of time on a single question takes up the precious minutes needed for the other questions,” she said. After completing  Plus Two, Jes joined the repeaters’ batch at a coaching centre. She bagged the 56th rank in the NEET and now hopes to make it to the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. “But since CMC Vellore stipulates a two-year bond, I am thinking of opting for Kozhikode MCH,” she said.
