KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday issued a notice to the CBI on a petition seeking probe by the Central agency in the murder of a Latvian national. The court also sought the view of the state government in this regard and posted the case to July 9. The Latvian, who had arrived in Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment, went missing on March 14. Her body was later found in a mangrove forest at Thiruvallam.
The court issued the order on the petition filed by Andrew Jordan, an Ireland native.

The victim and the petitioner were living together since July 2014. During the investigation, the police implicated two persons - Umesh and Udayan - who hail from the same place where the body was found, in the case. From the facts, circumstances and the evidence collected so far, the petitioner suspects involvement of other persons as well. The petitioner also filed a complaint before the Chief Minister for entrusting the investigation with the CBI, but no action has been taken.

According to the petitioner, the police are yet to book the real culprits. The investigation team took the list of the known habitual offenders from the nearby police stations and the persons having a criminal history. The police arrested the two after a probe based on their tower location.

Later, the duo retracted from the confessional statement and also submitted before the court they had been subjected to brutal torturing and harassment. The duo also alleged they gave statements as dictated by the police. The petitioner also alleged that the investigation team hastily cremated the victim’s body to destroy the real evidence regarding her brutal murder at the hands of persons who kept her captive for days together and raped her.
