Fraud: Bank manager, wife arrested after 17 years

 The CBI has arrested a bank manager and his wife, who had been absconding for the past 17 years, in a case pertaining to misappropriation of money from Bank of India.

KOCHI: The CBI has arrested a bank manager and his wife, who had been absconding for the past 17 years, in a case pertaining to misappropriation of money from Bank of India, Thiruvallam branch, in Thiruvananthapuram. K Jaygopal, a native of Kulathara, and his wife were arrested upon their arrival at the Mumbai airport from Canada on Friday. They had been absconding since 2001 and a lookout notice was pending against them.

The immigration officers intercepted the duo at the airport and later, handed them over to the CBI, who brought the accused to Kochi on Saturday. The case was registered in 1998 for misappropriation of funds of DPEDP programme. There were four accused in the case, including K Jaygopal, his wife, B Krishnan of Karamana, and S Suresh Kumar of Nedumangad. As per CBI chargesheet, the accused persons syphoned off `13,36,153 from the bank. The duo has been remanded in judicial custody and sent to Kakkanad District Jail.
