MALAPPURAM: The IUML has decided to make an early entry to the Lok Sabha poll fray. The working committee meeting held in Malappuram on Saturday chalked out a primary plan and decided to hold conventions in all Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The conventions are aimed at equipping party workers to face the election and get maximum votes for UDF candidates. The first such convention will be held in Ponnani on July 4. The meeting, which was averse to criticising the front leadership for the bypoll debacle, cited the party could do its bit in the assembly segment.

A report was presented by party leader V K Ebrahimkunju. The meeting was presided over by party state president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal.  Alleging the state government failed to ensure proper compensation and rehabilitation for Kattippara landslide victims, the meeting came out against the Chief Minister saying his reluctance to visit the spot was condemnable. It urged steps to compensate the victims in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.

“The coastal hamlets in Malappuram are apprehensive that they lack proper facilities to face emergency,” the meeting cited demanding a permanent centre of Navy or Coast Guard at Tirur. Underscoring its earlier stand, the party leaders opined the Congress is the lone parallel against fascism. “The party’s aim is to bring back UPA rule at the Centre,” party national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty said after the meeting.

The party leader alleged that the CPM is trying to deny fundamental rights to minorities. He said the Left party is unable to emerge as a parallel.Exuding confidence in the emergence of a united anti-BJP force, the IUML leader said all parties will join hands against BJP at the national level.State general secretary K P A Majeed, national organising secretary and Ponnani MP E T Mohammed Basheer, Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal, Abdussamad Samadani and M K Muneer were also present.
