IDUKKI: Following suspected food poisoning, 13 students and a hostel warden of Marian College, Kuttikkanam, were taken ill and admitted to a private hospital at 35th Mile, near Mundakayam, here on Monday.

The students and the hostel warden took medical assistance after complaints of vomiting, skin allergy, diarrhoea and headache after allegedly consuming stale meat from the college hostel mess.

"The students currently under treatment in the wards are in a stable condition and responding to treatment," the hospital authorities said.

The students have been showing symptoms of food poisoning over the past six days, following which eight students were admitted to the hospital on Sunday. The other six, including the warden, were admitted on Monday.

Over a hundred students are staying at the college hostel and many are yet to seek medical help. Having received information about the issue, a police team led by Peruvanthanam SI Narayana Pillai reached the hospital. The hospital authorities preventing mediapersons from meeting the students resulted in a mild clash.
