We haven’t sidelined Aashiq Abu, says FEFKA

The explanation came in the wake of the Abu’s recent Facebook post which said he was issued a show-cause notice by FEFKA.

KOCHI: The directors’ union of the Film Employees’ Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) on Friday made it unambiguously clear it has not sidelined filmmaker Aashiq Abu and its doors are indeed wide open for the latter to hold democratic discussions.

The explanation came in the wake of the Abu’s recent Facebook post which said he was issued a show-cause notice by FEFKA.

“I did not respond to the letter. Hence I will not get a platform in FEFKA to express my views. This is why I am posting my opinion on Facebook. FEFKA is a union which has a bunch of good technicians and writers as members. However, FEFKA is maintaining a deafening silence on the recent developments over the torrent of verbal abuse heaped on the actor who flayed the superstars,” the post said.

In its reply, office-bearers said FEFKA was the first film body to suspend Dileep from his primary membership soon after his arrest in the actor assault case. “FEFKA had also decided his membership will be restored only if he proves his innocence in a court of law. FEFKA had declared its solidarity with the assault survivor and will continue giving her support,” it said.

Further, FEFKA directors’ union president Renji Panicker said the union had always extended its support to Abu right from the time he helmed  Daddy Cool, his debut film. “The show-cause notice was issued to Aashiq Abu for valid reasons. However, you are yet to respond to it. But, even after receiving the notice, you continued in the FEFKA  committee for two more years. We will like to request you to do an honest self-introspection and find out how many times you have attended FEFKA meetings. We would like to reiterate the doors of FEFKA are open to you for any democratic discussions,” it said.
