KOZHIKODE: BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai demanded a special assembly session be convened to pass a resolution against the Supreme Court verdict on the women’s entry issue into Sabarimala. He revealed BJP MLA O Rajagopal has given a letter demanding a joint session of the assembly to Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan and Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran.

“Pilgrimage is a state subject, so the power to enact a law on the subject is on the state government. The ruling front and the opposition should take the initiative to convene the assembly. If the state government passes a resolution on the Sabarimala verdict, only then can the Union government interfere,” he said.
As per Article 252 of the Constitution, rules and regulations exist for the intervention of the Union government in a state matter, he added.

He ridiculed the Congress for withdrawing from the agitations on the Sabarimala women entry issue. Pillai said the efforts towards obtaining a consensus should be started as soon as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan returns to the state.
