THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ABHINAV C of SAI Thiruvananthapuram covered himself with glory on the penultimate day at the State Schools’ Athletic Championship when he dashed to an easy victory in the glamour event. The 17-year-old champion on Tuesday clocked a time of 10.97 s to breast the tape first up .
Hailing from Urathur in Kannur, Abhinav belongs to an indigent family. His father, Ratnakaran, who is a daily wage labourer, was elated at his son’s spectacular success. Abhinav’s victory here is a continuation of the success story he had scripted at the recent State Junior Athletics Championship where he won the event in record time. Actually, the record-breaking performance had helped the Class XII student to peak during the State Schools’ meet.
“This time round, there wasn’t much of a competition. I was all the while eyeing this title and I’m extremely pleased with my success,” said Abhinav. According to Peace, who has been coaching Abhinav,” This is just a beginning, I have planned lot more for his future and our determination will be to achieve those goals”.
Abhinav is aiming to replicate his gold medal winning performance in the 200 m event scheduled to be held on Sunday.
