Making it crystal clear that the LDF will not stop its agitation until Chief Minister Oommen Chandy steps down, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said that “attempts to hush up the solar case has resulted in the death of democratic governance in Kerala”.

Inaugurating a meeting convened by the LDF district committee at Vyttila, the CPM leader said: “If Chandy thinks that he can suppress the democratic protest by using brutal police force, he is living in a fantasy world. Murder charges should be initiated against the police officer who brutally attacked an LDF activist in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.”

“At a time when the people of Kerala are struggling with an unprecedented inflation and its severe repercussions, the Chief Minister is not doing anything to bring succour to the people. There are good chances that because of the defects in the recently-passed Food Security Bill, a large number of people will be left out of the public distribution system. Chandy failed to convince the Centre about the specifications of Kerala since he was completely immersed in cleaning his tainted hands in the solar scam. He has brought shame to the state by authoring a new low in the modern political history,” Pinarayi said.

Rubbishing allegations that the LDF had entered into a compromise with the government in the middle of the Secretariat siege, Pinarayi said Kerala will witness more protests until Chandy respects the rule of the law and democratic conventions. He said many technical experts had pointed that CCTV visuals in Delhi Vigyan Bhavan and state secretariat, where it is alleged that Saritha was seen freely interacting with Chandy, can be retrieved.

AITUC state secretary Kanam Rajendhran said the CM was manipulating state institutions to cover up his involvement in the scandal.

NCP state president T P Peethambaran, Kerala Congress leader PC Thomas, Janata Dal leader George Thomas and other LDF leaders spoke.
