Fest: Thrissur Tops Day II

On day two of the 54th State School Youth Festival being held here, Thrissur district leads the run for the gold cup. Kozhikode and hosts Palakkad are battling neck-and-neck for the second spot.

The cultural capital lived up to its billing and maintained its supremacy in most of the events, with contestants in multiple competitions putting in commendable performances to keep the Thrissur banner flying high. At the end of day two, Thrissur reigned atop the points tally with 166 points. Palakkad and Kozhikode both ended the day tied for second spot with 162 points each.

Four districts - Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram - lead in the High School (Arabic) section with 60 points each. In the High School (Sanskrit) section, the districts of Kottayam, Kozhikode and Kollam stayed atop with 30 points each. The main competitions which were held on the second day included bharathanatyam, folk dance, mohiniyattom, kuchipudi, drama, light music, chakiarkoothu, kolkali and parichamuttu kali.

Bags ‘A’ Grade in Keralanatanam

Palakkad:  Jamsheena Jamal,  who won ‘A’ grade in Keralanatanam for her portrayal of the story based on ‘Mahishasuramardini’,  is a symbol of amity and communal harmony at the youth festival.   Jamsheena Jamal,  the daughter of Jamaal and Sheeba, is a plus one science stream student at Christhava Mahilalayam Public School in Aluva. “She has been  my student for the past eleven years.  She always strives to understand every nitty-gritty of the Hindu mythological stories and characters before her she potrays them. She has been taking formal training in mohiniyattam, kuchipudi and bharatnatyam from along time. She is participating in  mohiniyattam and Keralanadanam competitions at the fest, said Sakthikumar, her tutor and faculty at the RLV College of Music and Fine Arts at Tripunithara. He said  Jamsheena Jamal had bagged ‘A’ grade  for  Keralanatanam at the district-level, consequitively, for the last four years at the HS and HSS categories.
