Indian Mujahideen second-in-command Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu and Pakistan national Zia-Ur-Rehman alias Waqas were on Saturday brought to Munnar by Delhi Police’s Special Cell for collecting evidence.

Tehseen and Waqas were first brought to a cottage, When Will You Stay, where the latter stayed for around three months from September 16, 2013 to January 2, 2014 with the fake identity of Maheen. Tehseen visited Waqas at this cottage in December 2013.

Thereafter, both were taken to a tea stall, near Munnar Colony, run by Jameel who arranged accommodation for Waqas. Jameel, who maintained the fake identity of Rahul, has been absconding since Waqas was arrested. Both were later taken to an Internet cafe at Munnar city which Waqas had frequently visited. They were later taken to the Munnar police station and then to Anachal, 15 kilometres from Munnar, from where they flew to New Delhi via Nedumbassery on helicopters. NIA officers also visited the cottage as Tehseen was an accused in several cases investigated by the investigative agency.

The cottage where Waqas stayed was evicted two days ago. Naval helicopters made the rounds of the city for nearly an hour before the arrival of the terror accused. Nearly 50 CISF officials who were on election duty were deployed for security arrangement. Besides, more than 100 policemen from Ernakulam and Idukki were also deployed.

Earlier, six Special Cell officers brought the terror accused to Nedumbassery in the morning. Their helicopters landed at an open ground in Anachal, from where they reached Munnar accompanied by six Kerala Police vehicles.
